I have never loved makeup, until we did the unit in beauty school. Once I learned all about the coordinating colors and the tones and such, it became pretty fascinating. And, when I practiced on my first actual person, I was so nervous because I had to give them a special-occasion, fancy night look. These are easily overdone or underdone. But I did it, and it looked beautiful! I was so proud of the way I used the product to make her eyes pop, and to highlight her greatest assets! That's what I love about makeup. It doesn't have to be a mask. It can bring out the best in a face.
So, since it's back-to-school time, I thought I'd talk about some of my favorite products for everyday, classroom-appropriate makeup.
1. Bare Minerals
I know you might be rolling your eyeballs to the back of your head right now. "That's expensive, Emily!" "Mineral makeup is overrated, Emily!" Hear me out, man. I was like you. I watched the little paid programming specials about Bare Minerals and went "Yeck! I'll just go to Target and pick out a foundation from Covergirl for $5!" Yes. It's true. A pot of powder foundation is $25. BUT it is really the best! Like the picture above says, it's so pure you can sleep in it! (Not that I recommend sleeping in makeup, please people, wash your face.) But it's so lightweight and feels like you're wearing no makeup at all! Also, a little goes a loooong way. It has great coverage! Also, it is long lasting. I've never had to touch up midday. My friends, I've been using this stuff for about 6 months, and it is seriously amazing. But, if you're still not convinced, I'll show you something that's, pretty good too...
2. Neutrogena Glow Sheers Tinted Moisturizer
For those of you with beautiful, flawless skin, I'd first like to break your nose. I was using Proactiv at age 10. I envy you. If you insist on using foundation (which I wouldn't if I were you), this is a great product. It has an SPF of 30, and it's slightly sheer. And you can get it at Wal-Mart.
3. L'oreal Voluminous Naturale Mascara
I love this mascara. It's perfect for daytime because it looks completely natural. It add a little bit of volume and a little bit of length, without all the clumps. Perfect for school.
4. Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner
Again, not too dramatic. And, it's very long lasting. Great for school. And, it's pretty inexpensive at Wal Mart, like $5 or something.
5. Ulta eyeshadow quad in the shade "Girly Girl"
I just bought this quad this morning. I love it. It is natural and slightly shimmery and flirty. It is perfect for school. This will definitely be my everyday palette.
6. Covergirl Cheekers blush
If you're like me, after all the stress of homework and friends and everything that school entails, you'll end up looking dead by the end of September. So, to let people know that your face is not a ghostly image and you are indeed alive, you might, like me, invest in a little cheek color. My favorite is Cheekers by Covergirl. Why? Because it's 3 bucks at Wal-Mart.
